NHCTC-Manchester offers a “Welding for the Artist” ARTS110 course, which is run both in the evening and during days. These classes are intended for those people with little or no welding experience, and run for 16 weeks - each session is approximately 4 ˝ hours long.
Students will learn:
Gas welding,
Brazing (both brazing and braze-welding procedures),
Oxyfuel Cutting (cutting and bending metal with torch heat),
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (stick),
Introduction to basic Blacksmithing.
Demonstrations in other process such as MIG and Plasma Arc cutting will also be given.
Emphasis will be placed upon safety, understanding how processes work, and hands-on practice.
This is an excellent course for beginning blacksmiths and other metal artists to learn how to put together (join) the metal pieces to finish a project, as well as making the often used jigs and fixtures.
The course is open to the general public and is often attended by college students, older adults, and retirees making for interesting classes. For more information call the college at the above number. Registration information can be obtained from the registrar’s office; for course detail questions, contact Mr. Jack Paige or Paul Gunther at extension 276.
